GDF CUNEO: FALSE LIFE INSURANCE POLICIES – BROKER SCAMMED CUSTOMERS FOR ABOUT 500,000 EUROS
The soldiers of the Provincial Command of Cuneo, as part of the activities aimed at protecting savings, completed an investigation coordinated and directed by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Cuneo which made it possible to reveal a scam worth around 500,000 Euros.
The investigations conducted by the Financiers of the Tenenza di Fossano originated from a series of complaints presented by some victims of the scam which resulted in the subscription of life insurance policies, subsequently found to be false, on the proposal of their trusted agent, operating on behalf of a well-known insurance company turned out to be completely unrelated to the story.
The investigative activity made it possible to reconstruct the financial flows and the fraudulent mechanism consisting in ad hoc packaging of fake life insurance policies through non-authentic contracts and documents prepared with the sole purpose of appropriating the sums paid by unaware customers convinced that they had subscribed to financial products and/or or genuine insurance. According to a classic scheme, the returns paid to customers, following the amounts paid, were initially guaranteed thanks to the collection of the shares paid by the new investors.
The investigative activity carried out testifies to the constant commitment that the Guardia di Finanza has in combating criminal phenomena. It aims to act as a warning to all savers and investors who entrust their capital to forms of dishonest entrepreneurship.
It is represented that due to the principle of the presumption of innocence, the guilt of the person subjected to investigation in relation to the matter will be definitively ascertained only if an irrevocable sentence of conviction occurs. The Public Prosecutor of Cuneo has granted authorization for the disclosure of this press release pursuant to Legislative Decree 188/2021.
