Palermo is equipped with a new car sharing service. The business project of Kinto, a daughter company of the Toyota group which has been dealing with the sector since 2019, was presented this morning at the port’s Cruise Terminal. The service will start on April 18th and will be available to cruise passengers and beyond. The fleet of vehicles will start with five hybrid cars. A choice that will allow CO2 emissions into the atmosphere to be reduced to a minimum and which aims to extend the mobility of the vehicles available to users.

Kinto’s project in Palermo: the new car sharing service

“We are very happy to be able to inaugurate the car sharing service that is about to launch – explains Vincent Van Acker, service design & user experience director – which will expand our national network. The vehicles are available to anyone orbiting the port and need a mobility service of a few hours or a few days. The service is self service – he continues – there is an app that allows you to book the vehicle, use it and always end the journey at the port”. Everything will take place via a QR code that will take you to the page to purchase the services, so you can unlock the vehicles and use them.

A project intended with a view to enhancing the island’s sustainable mobility and allowing tourists who wish to visit not only Palermo but also the many beauties present in the province and on the island in general. In this sense, the vehicles will be able to move anywhere, but can only be returned to the port’s Cruise Terminal. With regard to relations with the Municipality, a public-private partnership is also envisaged with Amat, a subsidiary company that deals with local public transport in Palermo and, consequently, also with the car sharing service in the city through the “Amigo” service.

“We enthusiastically welcomed Kinto’s proposal – explained Antonio Di Monte, general manager of West Sicily Gate – which will be at the service of cruise passengers and the city. This is the future of automotive and we are happy to have been identified as the starting point for this new modality.”
