Rates increasing in the municipality of Massa by around 3% for the two-year period 2024-2025. The measure was voted on during the last meeting of the city council which took place yesterday.

After discussions in the council, the amendment was approved with 19 votes in favour of the entire majority e 11 against of the opposition.

As explained in the council by the technician, the new tariffs of the Tari in Massa, as in other municipalities in Tuscany, provide for increases, but try to put a brake on it through a downward revision of the variable part, linked to the members of the family unit.

Rates, approved by Ato Toscana Costa, they must only cover the costs of integrated waste management, excluding other activities such as rodent control and management of public green areas.

In 2023, the waste production was 13.4 million tonnes of undifferentiated and 31.3 million tonnes of separated. This led to an average increase in waste production in the summer season of 17.11%, with a greater burden for waste treatment and targeted services for accommodation facilities.

Non-domestic users recorded an increase in management costs. The total cost for the service is 20.4 million euros, with 12.2 million paid by families and 7 million for non-domestic users. Rates for domestic utilities include a fixed fee multiplied by the square meters of the property and a variable fee based on the number of members of the family unit.

Satisfied the mayor of Massa Francesco Persiani for having managed to increase the waste tax by only 3%: “Swe managed to reduce the increase in the Tari which will stand at 3% compared to the 9% required by the ISTAT adjustment. – commented – An effort that we have tried to make with the municipal budget, also thanks to the recovery of tax evasion, aware of the difficult period we are going through and the high bills that our citizens periodically receive”.
