Lamezia, Cartabia reform and family law: event promoted by the bar association at the court

Lamezia Terme – The conference was held at the Court of Lamezia, organized by the Council of the Bar Association of Lamezia Terme and the Forensic Training School “Avv. Franco Stranges”, entitled “Cartabia Reform of Family Law: insights into the new process”. There was great enthusiasm in the Lamezia forum for the participation, as speaker, of Giuseppe Buffone, today a high-level magistrate who began his training course in the courtrooms of the Court of Lamezia Terme. The training event had the objective of examining the interventions that the Cartabia reform has introduced in family law both in substantive and procedural terms, analyzing the various provisions of the law which have made significant changes to the rules contained in the civil and procedural code civil, as well as the most interesting institutions of the novel.

The highly prestigious speakers were Giuseppe Buffone who today works at the Italian permanent representation to the European Union, as a seconded magistrate, dealing mainly with civil justice and fundamental rights for which he began to become passionate both during his Doctorate research at the University of Catanzaro but above all during his first assignment as a magistrate and Tiziana D’Agosto, lawyer at the Court of Lamezia Terme, specialized in criminal law but who in recent years has also been concretely dealing with family law. The conference, moderated by Serena Perri, Councilor of the Lamezia Terme Bar Association and Aiga National Councilor, began with greetings from Giuseppe Pandolfo, President of the Council of the Lamezia Terme Bar Association who, in reiterating the importance regarding the matter discussed, he recalled having had Buffone as an opponent in a case when he was still a young lawyer.

The greetings continued with those of Giovanni Strangis, magistrate elected President of GES National Association of District Magistrates of Catanzaro. Giovanni Strangis stated that he always returns with pleasure to the Court of Lamezia Terme where he practiced law and left a question for all those present and that is “whether at this precise moment in which Justice needs many concrete reforms whether it is necessary focus on the separation of careers or whether it would actually be more appropriate to deal with something else2.

The final greetings were those of the lawyer Maria Di Terlizzi, President of the juvenile chamber of Lamezia Terme, who briefly examined the main points of the reform. Giovanni Garofalo, President of the Court of Lamezia Terme introduced the meeting, giving an initial positive report on the progress and duration of the trials in the Court of Lamezia. The conference, therefore, came to life with the interventions of the speakers Giuseppe Buffone and Tiziana D’Agosto who, through a multimedia presentation, addressed the chosen topic, effectively involving all those present. Some relevant procedural issues were examined such as the scope of application of the reform, the applicability of the new procedure, joint applications for separation and divorce, the erroneous introduction of the process and non-deferrable measures.

Practical cases were examined, thus involving the entire audience who actively participated in the discussion. In fact, the room remained packed until the end of the conference. Buffone concluded his speech by inviting those present to go and visit the European Union headquarters in Brussels as experts and not just visitors. The debate, they highlight, “was very interesting, not only the high quality of the speakers but also the undoubted novelty of the subjects discussed”.
