The Carabinieri of the Gioia Tauro Company, supported by the soldiers of the “Calabria” Helicopter Hunters Squadron, carried out a search at a company located in Candidoni (RC).
During the search operations, inside and near a warehouse, 266 blocks of cocaine were found, cleverly hidden in numerous bags containing pellet fuel, for a total weight of approximately 285 kg.
A man from Rosarno, cl., ended up in handcuffs. 84, who gave no explanation as to the origin of the narcotic.
Taking into account the large quantity, it is believed that the analyzes that will be conducted on the narcotic will confirm the high purity of the cocaine: in this regard, considering an average retail price of around 80 euros per gram, for the narcotic seized by the Carabinieri of Gioia Tauro estimates a total amount of almost 23 million euros, all without considering the almost total certainty that the drug could be “cut” with other substances, before selling it to the final buyer on the street.
At the end of the formalities, the arrested person was associated with the Palmi prison and made available to the Judicial Authority.
The seizure is among the most important ones carried out by the Carabinieri of the Gioia Tauro Group in recent years.
The Carabinieri recalls the importance of citizens’ collaboration, inviting anyone with useful information to report suspicious situations to the emergency number 112 or to the Carabinieri stations present in the area.
The proceeding is in the preliminary investigation phase, not excluding developments, even positive ones, towards the suspect.
