Pescara: the CGIL calls for the resignation of Minister Locatelli over the Vannacci affair

“General Vannacci’s statements are a return to the Middle Ages: we ask for the resignation of Minister Alessandra Locatelli” who allegedly defended “the indefensible, taking a position, to put it mildly, which is, to say the least, soft”. Claudio Ferrante, head of the CGIL office in Pescara for disability policies, declared this in a note on the sentences pronounced by General Roberto Vannacci

The minister, recalls Ferrante, declared that “whoever spoke then clarified what his thoughts were” and reiterated that Italy is inspired by the principle of scholastic inclusion, contained in the UN Convention on the rights of people with disabilities. “We believe that thousands of young people and their families deserve much more than this verbal alms from a high representative of the institutions – continues Ferrante – Vannacci, candidate for the European elections with the League, has adopted a very specific electoral strategy: for better or for worse, as long as let’s talk about it.”
“For him, the good is creating separate school classes for students with disabilities, forgetting or not knowing the meaning of inclusion and disability, of the value of diversity as a growth value for the entire class group. Vannacci – adds the CGIL exponent – perhaps forgets what is written in the Constitution? Even though he is running for the European Parliament, perhaps he doesn’t even know what the UN convention on the rights of people with disabilities is and what it says.”

“The minister for disabilities Locatelli – intervenes the general secretary of CGIL Pescara, Luca Ondifero – just over a month ago declared ‘for us the Convention is a beacon that guides us, in terms of inclusion, the right to full participation in civil life , social and political aspects of the country’. Precisely that convention trampled upon, torn up and insulted by his party friend who was a candidate in the European elections. The minister must intervene again and totally dissociate herself from Vannacci’s statements which seem to come from the Middle Ages – insists Ondifero – Do so without ifs or buts, because when full and equal participation in the education and inclusion system is called into question, the conquests made in recent years are destroyed and the entire cultural path as well as the progress of a civilized and democratic country is destroyed”.
