Open construction sites and projects in motion: Piedmont accelerates towards development. Alessandria becomes the scene of a significant preview for the Piedmontese territory with the presentation of the OTI Piedmont 2024 Report. The report, awaited with interest by regional stakeholders, offered an encouraging picture of the current Piedmontese infrastructural panorama, reporting an increase in active construction sites and a reduction in projects at risk.

The analysis focused on 69 infrastructures considered of vital importance for Piedmontese companies. The balance is positive: three works completed, five new construction sites opened, and an increase in works in line with the scheduled times. Delays have decreased, with eleven projects still in planning limbo.

The report, presented at Palazzo del Monferrato, headquarters of the Alessandria-Asti Chamber of Commerce, highlighted important steps forward, such as the Turin-Caselle Airport railway connection and the new bridge over the Ticino between Vigevano and Abbiategrasso. A cautious optimism prevails, with a watchful eye on strategic works such as the Third Crossing and the Turin-Lyon, still shrouded in uncertainty.

Piedmontese companies await with hope the essential infrastructure to catalyze growth and development in the regional economy. However, the report highlights an infrastructure situation that requires immediate attention, especially given the 110 billion in trade between Italy and France and Piedmont’s key role as a gateway to Europe.

The event also hosted a study on logistics and future scenarios of freight traffic in the North West, organized by the Slala Foundation. The conclusions indicate that the next decade will be decisive for the Piedmontese ecosystem and, in particular, for logistics operators. Projects such as the Terzo Valico and the works on the Ligurian railway network could mean a revolutionary mobility of goods, with direct impacts on the regional production and logistics system.

The dialogue on the topic was enriched by a round table which highlighted the need for a multidimensional approach that considers the operational, financial, training and social aspects to compete in a globalized context.

The OTI 2024 report reflects a reality in which infrastructures are not just physical means of connection, but real engines of economic growth and integration. For Piedmont, this is the opportunity to strengthen its role in the European context, exploiting infrastructures as vehicles for greater prosperity and competitiveness.
