Scotland’s terrible Prime Minister Humza Yousaf must resign

The Prime Minister sScottish Humza Yousaf resigned on Monday, also leaving the leadership of the pro-independence Scottish National Party (SNP) after scrapping a coalition deal with the Scottish Greens. He then failed to gain enough support to survive the votes of no confidence against him, which were due to take place later in the week. A disastrous government, but fortunately short.

Yousaf, born to Pakistani immigrants in Glasgow, has built a reputation as a confrontational and narrow-minded politician. His rabid pro-immigration stance and consistent arguments for DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) should have been a wake-up call to the Scottish public; however, with an increasingly progressive voting population, Yousaf achieved a narrow victory. Here is Humza in 2020, as he delivers a speech admonishing the ‘whiteness’ of the Scottish Government.

Humza lashed out at the fact that MPs, civil servants, policemen and doctors in Scotland were all white. There’s a problem: Scotland is 96% white. For most people logic would dictate that having a white majority government makes perfect sense, given the demographics of Scotland. This is something that Yousef and his group of progressives have decided to change by all means.

In early 2024, the former Prime Minister sought to launch a pro-migrant propaganda campaign, arguing that open immigration policies bring economic benefits to Scotland. Of course, like all politicians who make this claim, he has offered no concrete statistics to support the theory, and such speeches have drawn him popular hostility.

Beyond his insistence on going against growing public opposition in Scotland to bringing more immigrants into the country, Yousaf’s biggest mistake was endorsing his “Llaw on hate crimes”, now wildly unpopular. The law, which recently went into effect, criminalized many forms of speech, including criticism or skepticism of gender fluid and trans theory. Misusing a trans person’s pronouns could now land a Scottish citizen in prison.

In response, the Scottish public has inundated law enforcement with false calls accusing various trans activists and even political leaders of various hate crimes. The police have been so overwhelmed with paperwork that all efforts to enforce the law have stopped.

His hate crimes law was a total disaster – which everyone had predicted – and before his resignation, only 29% of voters in his Scottish National Party thought Yousaf was doing well, while 36% thought he was a terrible politician. Let’s think about what our political opponents thought!

Under new ‘hate crime’ legislation, anyone believed to have been verbally ‘abusive’, in person or online, towards a transgender person, including ‘insulting’, could be sentenced to a prison sentence ofup to seven years.

As a reminder, the Police received 8,000 reports of ‘hate crime’ in just the first week of the law coming into force, equal to more than the annual total of all hate crime reports for all previous years.

The number is on pace to surpass the total of all other crimes combined.

Calum Steele, former general secretary of the Scottish Police Federation, said officers “are genuinely embarrassed”, adding that they “feel that the service and, by extension, [loro] as individual police officers, they will bear the brunt of public opinion.”

The hate crime law has been rejected from every corner of the UK, even by more liberal figures such as Harry Potter author JK Rowling. This stupid law will probably follow Humza’s political career: it will be cancelled.
