The City Council discusses cycle paths
Legnano – The City Council meeting on Tuesday 30 April in Legnano, the first of the three scheduled for April-May, opened with a minute of silence for the passing of the Mayor of Castellanza Mirella Cerini on Thursday 25 April: “a Mayor who has given so much to his Municipality”this is how the First Citizen of Legnano remembered her, Lorenzo Radice.
Since the opening statements, the theme of the discussion has been at the center of the discussion “cycle lane” in via XXIX Maggio and above all the insecurity of the road. In agreement with Brumana’s thoughts, Councilor Munafò (FI) also proposes the alternative of the “cycle path”: “these projects are carried out where they can actually be implemented”, he claims. The Councilor Gianluigi Grillo (FdI) remember about theappointment at the Il Giardino restaurant with the traders and residents of via XXIX Maggio and San Martino: “cycle paths are fine, but in a different context: here there is a risk not of facilitating mobility, but of creating accidents. Stop the obtuseness with which this project is being carried out.”
Continuing on this theme, also the two questions: one from the Brothers of Italy and one from the Citizens’ Movement brought the issue of safe use of cycle paths back into discussion. Councilor Bianchi carried out an examination of the number and type of accidents that occurred in the city from 2020 to 2023, in which the so-called “weak users” were involved.
“I am pleased to note that cyclists in Legnano are satisfied with 3.9 stars out of 5 regarding cycling, this indicates a fair degree of safety and, confirming the thoughts of Councilor Munafò, I would like this figure to remain so”, Councilor Carvelli (FdI) specifies in his speech. Of a completely different opinion Councilor Brumana who declared himself dissatisfied with the response to his question by Councilor Bianchi: “You can’t design a Bicipolitana on the drawing board, you have to evaluate all the consequences. Discussion with the City Council is necessary.” The topic will still be the subject of the next session.
The room was then called by Councilor Carvelli to debate on Carlo Borsanion the day his memory was staged, and on the meaning of the word anti-fascist.
