ROSE GARDEN. Serious accident at work yesterday, in the early afternoon, on a construction site in the center of Roseto, near the church of Santa Maria Assunta. A 60-year-old Romanian worker, while on scaffolding, slipped and fell from a height of four and a half metres. Rescue was immediate with the arrival of a 118 ambulance, but given the seriousness of the situation the worker was taken to Roseto nord, in the green area at the intersection between via Michetti and via Accolle, where the 118 helicopter he then transported him to the Mazzini hospital in Teramo. Here he underwent tests in the emergency room, where he remained under observation until late in the evening.
The worker suffered various injuries in the fall. His condition was deemed serious, although not such as to consider him in danger of dying. However, the consequences on the internal organs caused by the impact with the ground remained to be verified. At the time of the accident there were several citizens in Piazza della Repubblica, in front of the town hall, where among other things the city council meeting was taking place. «We were really scared», some witnesses say, «we heard a loud noise, in addition to the screams of the other workers. We immediately understood the gravity of the situation and so we called the ambulance.” Work on the Superbonus has been underway for months in the building in front of the Municipality, where the 60-year-old fell. The building on the ground floor houses commercial activities, while on the upper floors there are apartments and offices. Investigations into the causes of the accident have been started by the police. According to an initial reconstruction that emerged from checks on the construction site, the worker lost his balance due to tiredness and fell from the scaffolding. It remains unclear whether the 60-year-old was wearing safety devices at the time of the fall. (lv)
