A morning of celebration in the Sperone neighborhood on the occasion of the inauguration of the internal gym and the external sports field of the Giuseppe Di Vittorio school. Cutting the ribbon of the new facilities – built in six months with European Fesr funds for a total amount of about 350 thousand euros – were the mayor Roberto Lagalla and the municipal councilor for Public Education Aristide Tamjao together with the school principal Angela Mirabile.

The project involved the functional adaptation and system safety of the old school gym (central complex which hosts primary and lower secondary school classes): replacement of the flooring and lighting system, arrangement of the fixtures and construction of a new volleyball court. An insulated metal roof was created above the roof of the gym (and of the entire institute) aimed at thermal insulation and avoiding infiltrations. In the outdoor space of the school, however, a basketball court was created supported by a new lighting system.

“This administration – says mayor Roberto Lagalla – is distinguishing itself for the many works carried out and completed within certain times and for this I thank councilor Tamajo and his offices for the attention and commitment they are giving to the city’s schools The creation of the gym and other outdoor spaces of the Di Vittorio institute is a tangible signal towards the students and the Sperone neighbourhood”, says mayor Roberto Lagalla.

“Moments like those of this morning – comments the municipal councilor for Public Education – represent important stages of an uphill path that we have undertaken since the day our Administration took office: the commitment was to take care of Palermo’s schools and their structures that have been abandoned for too many years. With a motivated team and with a lot of commitment, we work every day in this direction: from interventions on heating systems to maintenance ones, we try to give concrete answers to the territories that ask for facts and the presence of the institutions. The Di Vittorio school, where we have already intervened on other fronts in recent times, will now be able to benefit from this commitment with two splendid structures dedicated to sports and free time, and for this I particularly thank the team of colleagues from the municipal school buildings offices “.

“On behalf of the entire institute, I would like to thank the municipal administration for the commitment and perseverance with which it accompanies us on our journey every day. The opening of these spaces will allow us to further expand our educational offering, proposing diversified activities also in the afternoon: important interventions that substantiate the fight against educational poverty and school dropout”, explains Angela Mirabile, head teacher of ICS Di Vittorio.

“A great celebration this morning because the school community of Ics Di Vittorio has been given back internal and external spaces intended for students for sporting activities. This morning’s event is a further signal that the Administration gives this of territory, the Sperone district, which must be further paid attention to contribute to its social redemption”, commented Pasquale Terrani, president of the VII council commission.

The contractor is Farel Impianti SRL of Favara (which subcontracted part of the work to Solar System srl of Cammarata). The Rup was the architect Roberta Romeo, the safety coordinator the architect Brigitta Sanfilippo and the design group, coordinated by the architect Michele Manca, was composed of the surveyor Fabio Giammarinaro – who was also the director of the works – and the engineers Maria Vita Seminara, Gaetano Russo and Giuseppe Pecoraro.
