Roberta Cetro is one of the 387 teachers scattered around Italy who risk being fired for having had covid. That’s right: in fact, permanent teachers who took the competition test on an additional date, established because the Covid emergency had prevented them from participating, risk being fired. The Council of State, at the end of January, had established that it was not legitimate to set a further date for the competition “mere individual impediments”, as the coronavirus has been defined. Last February 8th the Minister of Education Giuseppe ValditarHowever, he had released a statement in which he committed to resolving the situation.
On March 6, a delegation of teachers was received in Rome by the Minister’s staff, receiving reassurances, but since then there has been no news. The promised law to resolve the issue has not yet arrived, leaving teachers in a state of stress and worry about the future. “In a phase of teacher shortage, the minister is giving up the qualities of graduates who have had their skills certified before a commission.”
Roberta Cetro is 35 years old, originally from Naples and has lived in Reggio for 15 years. In our province she is the only teacher to find herself in this surreal condition.
