After the end of a relationship, a woman is forced to change her life due to threats and harassment from her ex-partner.
TO Cataniaa case of stalking led to the adoption of severe precautionary measures against a 34-year-old man, accused of stalking his ex-partner, a 31-year-old local woman.
The situation emerged when the woman decided to end a romantic relationship that lasted over 16 years, a decision that her ex did not accept, starting to threaten and harass her.
Although there were no acts of physical violence, the continuous state of anxiety and fear in which the woman lived was palpable. Verbal threats were frequent and disturbing, including the statement that “they could die together by killing each other.”
These words, together with obsessive behaviors such as stalking and constant calls, even at night, forced the woman to drastically change her life.
The authorities responded by imposing an approach ban and requiring the man to wear an electronic bracelet, maintaining a distance of at least 500 meters from his ex.
Despite the measures adopted, the tension for the woman’s safety remains high, to the point that she had to equip herself with pepper spray for self-defense.
The case raises important questions about the protection of stalking victims and the effectiveness of restrictive measures imposed by the justice system to prevent further violence or harassment.
