Giro, Pogacar: “I went beyond my dreams”

“A very sweet victory”: that’s exactly what Tim Merlier says, the Belgian who achieved the third stage success in this year’s Giro at the finish line in Rome, equalizing the score with an extremely unlucky Milan. “Let’s say that mine certainly wasn’t the perfect sprint – he admits – because at the decisive moment I wasn’t able to keep up with my teammates. It was a complicated finish, at the 400 meter mark there was a lot of confusion in the group and I lost the position a bit. So I anticipated the sprint on the cobblestones, but it went well for me. It was a similar situation to that of the finale in Kuurne, but the result was positive for me. and I’m happy to have repaid the team’s work anyway.”

a fairy tale

The one, however, who still seems incredulous about the feat accomplished is the winner Tadej Pogacar, “because this Giro went beyond my dreams, beyond what I could have hoped for before starting it. We raced from the start in a fantastic atmosphere , in a beautiful climate, with many people following us. I have dreamed of this victory since I was a child.” And, more than a victory, it was a real ride for Tadej: “It’s been three weeks full of good memories, they would be so many if I had to list them all. The team was exceptional, and now I can prepare well for the second, very important part of the season”.
