Meghan’s father, Thomas Markle made important statements and invoked King Charles’ help to see his grandchildren.
In many ways Thomas Markle is a rather opaque character: it only became known to the public when Meghan wanted to permanently remove him from her life accusing him of having betrayed his trust.
The accusation was that he had sold photographs to paparazzi just before Harry and Meghan’s wedding and having made a private letter public that Meghan had written to him by hand when he was still trying to recover his relationship with his father.
Thomas Markle, however, has always returned many of Meghan’s accusations to the sender: he apologized for his behavior before the wedding, but he has always accused his daughter of having very cruel and insensitive behavior towards him. Thomas is now almost eighty years old and has rather serious health problems: despite this Meghan doesn’t let him see Archie and Lilibet, exactly how it keeps children away from the English Royal Family.
In fact, it seems that Thomas Markle had the opportunity to see Archie a few times but that he only met little Lilibet once. During an interview he even declared that he would like to have at least one photograph of his grandchildren.
Thomas Markle’s appeal: “I am King Charles”
The only thing that perhaps consoles Thomas Markle is that the Royal Family is also in the same situation as him. “Archie and Lilibet have two grandparents who want to see them, one of whom is the King of England. I never thought that in my 80s I would be in the same boat as the King.” he declared bitterly to the Daily Mail.
Thomas Markle has in fact underlined that his daughter is not only behaving cruelly towards him, but also towards Harry’s family, and which should show respect to a beloved and important figure like that of Carlo.
Meghan’s father also reiterated that in many years he has never been able to understand his daughter’s motivations, from which he would still like clarification. “I have so many questions I would like to ask Harry and Meghan. The main one is: why did you treat not only me, but also the Royal Family and the King so badly?”.
It is very likely that Thomas hopes for a reconciliation between Harry and Charles and that a newfound family harmony between the Windsors will also push Meghan to get closer to him. Certainly, the King has more cards to play than him in trying to change the Sussexes’ minds.
