Books, Nicola Pera presents “La Santa Teresa” at Villa Fabbricotti

Thursday 27 June, at 6.30 pm, appointment of the book and author presentation program organized by the Vespucci Colombo Library in collaboration with Erasmo Libri. At the Kioschino of Villa Fabbricotti, Nicola Pera’s book “La Santa Teresa” (GM Libri) will be presented. Introduced by Giorgio Bernard. Readings by Rodolfo Baglioni.

The book

October 1955. The Santa Teresa embarks a small crew that must take her to La Spezia for disarmament, but the captain, a mysterious figure who never leaves his cabin, in agreement with the older sailors and without the knowledge of shipowner, wants to cross the ocean and take her to Rio. Thus begins the chronicle of an impossible crossing, running out of food and fuel, during which, together with the sailors’ life stories, strange presences follow one another, an improvised hunt for a dogfish, an encounter with a ghost ship and clashes between crew members. Will the Santa Teresa make it to her destination or, as the younger sailors will begin to suspect, will she drift away without reaching any real destination? How she ended up is told by the cabin boy, who has survived to this day.

“The Santa Teresa – states the author – is a novel born from incredible events, some of which actually happened, but it is not just a sea story; its protagonists continue to get on and off the ship with their memories and their hopes. They return to the mainland thinking about the mistakes they made or about Angela, Anita, Rossana, about what really happened and why they wanted to leave again. I hope this book will be a pleasant surprise for readers who don’t know me yet. I would like this story to entertain them, but once the last page is closed, it leaves behind a thought about what really happened and what they read, as good stories should (always) do succeeded but, if you like it and feel like it, you can do it yourself.”
