Another false step towards peace. Hamas has in fact rejected the Israeli proposal for an agreement for the release of the hostages and the implementation of a ceasefire in Gaza. According to the Israeli broadcaster Kan, Palestinian terrorists claim that the proposal put forward by Israel is “fundamentally different from the one presented by US President Joe Biden, and guarantees nothing more than a temporary ceasefire.”

Hamas sources quoted by the Saudi but London-based newspaper Asharq al-Awsat explained that the Palestinian organization wants clear guarantees on the end of the war in Gaza once the hostage deal is signed. «Israel is manipulating. They want a temporary truce and then start the war again”, specified the sources, according to which the Israelis use “ambiguous” formulas in the text of the agreement which “are open to interpretation”. According to the Times of Israel, however, the position of the sources cited by the Saudi-owned newspaper does not appear to be a formal rejection of the agreement.

Yesterday the political leader of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, made it known that his organization will approach “seriously and positively” any ceasefire agreement based on the total cessation of the war and the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, for his part, insists that he will not accept any hostage deal that prevents Israel from completing its goal of eliminating Hamas.
