Yemen’s Houthis, supported by Iran, launched several drones and two ballistic missiles.

The US Army made this known. US Central Command (CENTCOM) said it intercepted four drones launched by the Houthis – three over the Red Sea and another over the Gulf of Aden – while a fifth drone crashed. The Houthis also launched two anti-ship ballistic missiles. No injuries or damage were reported by U.S., coalition or commercial vessels.

Yesterday the Houthis had threatened to intensify their attacks against Red Sea shipping after overnight attacks by the United States and Britain that the rebels said had killed 16 people. If the toll is confirmed, it would be one of the attacks with the highest number of victims since the United States and Great Britain launched a campaign against the interruption of the trade route in January. The rebels, who control much of Yemen, have carried out dozens of drone and missile attacks on ships since November, claiming solidarity with the Palestinians over the war between Israel and Hamas.

Attacks by the Houthis in recent months have forced commercial ships to divert from the sea route, which normally carries about 12% of global trade.
