TERAMO. The redevelopment of the railway station area is being examined by citizens. A public meeting has been called for Monday at 5 pm, at the Science Park, to present the executive project of the 23 million euro intervention that will change the layout of the last stretch of the tracks and the area between Viale Crispi and Gammarana.
The salient features of the work will be presented to the citizens by representatives of the Italian railway network (lead company of the infrastructure hub of the Ferrovie dello Stato group) supported by the municipal administrators. The meeting will thus open the participatory phase relating to the mega redevelopment project of the railway station. In fact, it will be an opportunity to take stock and communicate the progress of the procedure, after the awarding of the contract to the Montoria-based company D’Adiutorio and pending the drafting of the executive project. In the intentions of the Municipality and the Italian Railway Network (RFI), Monday’s meeting will allow us to collect suggestions and proposals on the urban regeneration of the station area, compatibly with the design phase, in an open discussion with residents and interested parties.
The project, which will change the face of a strategic area of the city and which is financed with Pnrr funds, as well as a contribution from the Municipality, envisages the main interventions being the rearrangement of the tracks, with the moving back of the railway terminus. The shape of the station will also be revised, with the construction of new platforms, shelters, the opening of an access on both sides of the airport, as well as the redevelopment of the historic building which houses the waiting room and a restaurant, with improvement seismic analysis of the structure and reorganization of the external areas. The new configuration of the area will, in particular, allow the creation of a square intended for the re-stitching of the urban fabric and which also includes the redistribution of services and pedestrian, cycle and vehicular accessibility routes through the integration of train, car and bus. The interventions are aimed at improving the conditions of liveability and safety and at encouraging movement around the area by public transport and the so-called “active mobility” also in terms of environmental sustainability. «Next Monday will represent an important step that will allow us to discuss with the city and incorporate citizens’ observations», underlines the mayor Gianguido D’Alberto«which will then be evaluated together with RFI with the aim of returning to the city, at the end of the works, not only a modern and increasingly functional station but also an area to live in thanks to the new urban square and the related interconnections».
