The mayor Federico Basile and the councilor for youth policies Liana Cannata were present, and the program of the event was presented today at Palazzo Zanca “Piazza Idea – Street Artists Festival”organized by the Municipality of Messina and artistically directed by Lelio Naccari and Daniele Mircuda, scheduled for Sunday 30 June, from 5.00 pm, in Piazza Lo Sardo.
“Piazza Idea – Street Artists’ Festival – explained Mayor Basile – is an example of how citizens can reclaim the spaces of their city through art. The municipal administration was able to listen to the needs of the artists and supported them to create something structured over time. The tourist, present in Messina, remains attracted by the artistic performances similar to those that all of us have witnessed, visiting the main European cities and making it become a brand for the city itself”.
Councilor Cannata retraced the most significant stages that led to the street art festival scheduled for Sunday, June 30, “thanks to the important advocacy role of the artists and the contribution of the City Council that approved a more streamlined and easy-to-apply regulation, we have managed to create something unthinkable until some time ago. Art that creates beauty and animates the streets, roads and squares that become a stage for the city’s talents, and not only that”.
The artistic directors Naccari and Mircuda presented the initiative’s program, highlighting that the focus was on circus street art, less present in Messina and which will bring further light and creativity.
The initiative intends to celebrate street art in all its forms, enhancing dialogue and interaction between artists and the public. Street Art, by its very nature, has rooted in itself the need to share with the public and therefore with the territory: they are practices, styles, creations, which in order to exist must necessarily breathe with what surrounds them, trying to bring and not to separate, to create “together”. To entertain, but also to create culture, highlighting the value of osmosis between artists and the public, and therefore between human beings. Messina and national artists will be present with performances suitable for all ages.
