17 displaced, three apartments and two shops unusable

A fire broke out this morning, June 30, in a building in Verdello (Bergamo). The flames started in an apartment and spread to the roof.

Il roof of a building caught fire in the early hours of this morning, Sunday 30 June, in via Leonardo da Vinci in Verdello, in the province of Bergamo. The fire apparently started from a first floor apartment of the building, and then spread to the roofs of nearby apartments. The causes of the fire are not yet known, which was extinguished by firefighters in over three hours of work. Several homes were declared unusable, including a kebab shop on the ground floor. There are 17 displaced people in total.

Firefighters worked for more than 3 hours

The alarm was raised around 6:30 on June 30. The roof of a building that houses first floor apartments and commercial premises on the ground floor it caught fire for reasons that have not yet been clarified.

Firefighters arrived on site from Bergamo Central, helped by colleagues from the Dalmine and Zogno detachments and by volunteers from Romano di Lombardia and Gazzaniga. The extinguishing operations continued for over three hours, after which the firefighters proceeded to make the building safe. With them, the 118 health workers with medical car and ambulance and the local police.

17 people evacuated

According to what emerged from the initial checks, the fire was started from an apartment on the first floorthe one above the kebab shop. Within a few minutes, the flames had extended to the roofs of nearby houses.

In total, three apartments have been declared unusable, the kebab shop and another business. The displaced people, instead, would be 17. No people were injured or intoxicated.
