Dramatic flood in Swiss: in Canton Ticino a storm has caused serious consequences with 2 confirmed victims and one person still missing. According to media reports in Italian-speaking Switzerland, violent storms have caused a landslide in the Fontana area, Vallemaggia. The Cantonal Police have confirmed the discovery of the bodies of 2 people by Rega rescuers, who are currently being identified. The Swiss authorities are conducting searches to find the third missing person.

A Mahoganya summer camp with about 70 people was hit by the disaster, while in Peccia, where a local football tournament is taking place, about 300 people are present. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in either case. Currently, the evacuation operations of the colony in Mogno are underway, while the methods for evacuating the people in Peccia are being evaluated. In the most affected area, communications and electricity are interrupted.

In western Switzerland, the flooding of the Rodano forced the evacuation of Rarogne, Gampel, Chippis and Sierre. The Rhone flood reached its maximum level in the Upper Valais on Sunday evening, and is expected to reach the Lower Valais in the morning. In Zermatt, new flooding with the overflowing of the Vispa.

Flooding occurred between Raron and Gampel and between Chippis and Sierre. People had to leave their homes in Goms, Täsch, Siders/Chippis and Sion. According to the authorities, several hundred people were taken to safety.

The bad weather also caused disruption to rail traffic: on the Lausanne-Brig line it was interrupted early this morning between Riddes and Ardon, as reported by the Swiss Federal Railways.
