Zaynab Dosso lives up to expectations and easily wins the title of Italian champion in the 100 meters, the fifth time in her career. The races opened yesterday afternoon in La Spezia, continuing until late at night, with the same program today that will end around 11 pm. In the 100 meters, some Italian athletes had already withdrawn (Bongiorni, Siragusa, Hooper), believing that it was not worth running only… for second place, to divert their energy to today’s 200. So Zaynab, who would not have had any particular problems, won the final in control in 11”20, after the 11”25 of the heat. “After the European Championships I stopped for about ten days – says the Italian who didn’t even dive at the finish line – so these championships were important to understand the current condition. Now we still have to work to get to the top at the Paris Olympics. After all, I can’t always push, in July I have two Diamond League events in Paris and Monaco”. The championships had started well for the athletes from Reggio, with Sara Cantergiani of Self Montanari e Gruzza qualifying for the final of the 400 hurdles with the new provincial record of 58”17. Sara entered as eighth, but rightfully so, given that the ninth is almost a second behind. Today’s final was objectively very complicated, but Cantergiani is the only non-military girl at the start and therefore the only non-professional. After Cantergiani, Sandra Milena Ferrari (Fratellanza Modena) took to the track in the 100 hurdles. The girl from Reggio, who returned to Italy after a year of university studies in the US and is waiting to return in August, placed third in her heat in 13”63, but the tenth overall time was not enough to send her to the final. In the men’s 100, Michael Kyereme did well, third in his heat in 10”56, but ninth overall and first of those excluded from the final, last Alexandru Zlatan in 10”81. Today is the second and final day of the absolutes: particularly eagerly awaited is Dosso in the 200, Yassin Bouih in the 3000 steeplechase, Sandra Milena Ferrari in the long jump and Giuseppe Gravante in the 1500. Cantergiani runs the final, closing with the women’s 4×400 relay of Self.
