Logbook Day 10 ‘Meeting the ancient Sami people’

The Caravan crossed the Norwegian border to reach the Sapmi Park in Karasjok

VITERBO – On the adventurous journey to the North Cape, the Jupiter pioneers had an experience that turned into a moment dedicated to the soul: a visit to Sapmi Park, a place where the tradition of the Sami people awakens deep emotions and creates indelible memories.

After leaving Finland and the home of Santa Claus, the North Cape Destination Caravan crossed the border with Norway to reach Sapmi Park in Karasjok. A cultural and historical attraction dedicated to the celebration of the life and traditions of the Sami people, or about 80 thousand people distributed across a vast territory, between Sweden, Norway, Finland and Russia.

Walking through the park it was exciting to immerse ourselves all, educators, teenagers and special kids, in a magical atmosphere, as if time slowed down, to allow a deeper connection with nature and Sami culture.

The reindeer, which the children observed closely, are not just animals; they are sacred creatures that for the Lapps represent the origin of life itself. Inside the traditional Sami tent, you feel wrapped in the warmth of the stories told under the starry sky, of the laughter and tears shared, of living together despite the adversities and hostility of the environment.

An invitation to discover, respect, and love a culture that speaks of ancient connections and eternal beauty. There is a sense of wonder that lingers, a desire to preserve that connection, to honor a people, a culture, a land that has so much to teach.

“Before covering the last stage, which will take the Caravan to the North Cape tomorrow, stopping at Sapmi Park was the most moving way to really come into contact with the far north – says Salvatore Regoli, president of Juppiter – An invitation for everyone, but especially for our kids, to feel the connection between men and between man and nature to live an experience that transforms and enlightens the heart, preparing us for the arrival at the North Cape”
