FLORENCE – For the Municipality of Calenzano (Florence) the expansion of the Florence airport should not be done. The observations on the master plan were presented to the Ministry of the Environment.
According to the administration they are “completely neglected and have not taken into consideration the effects, impacts and interferences that the project has on a larger area, which also includes Calenzano, in terms of health, environment, safety, mobility system of area”, furthermore in the Masterplan of the expansion there is a failure to foresee the creation of the Piana Park, present in the territorial planning tools of Calenzano and Sesto Fiorentino” and on the mitigation works the sentences of the TAR were not taken into consideration and the Council of State.
“It would be desirable – stated the mayor of the Left and civic lists Giuseppe Carovani, just elected in the run-off against the candidate of the Democratic Party and the centre-left – that the Via della nuova airport runway procedure acknowledges once and for all that a new airport in the heart of the Florentine plain is totally incompatible with the environmental context in which it is intended to be inserted by force. Even the additions presented to the Masterplan by Enac and Toscana Aeroporti are not such as to overcome the numerous critical issues and incompatibilities highlighted by the ministerial opinion. Let’s put a stop to it, once and for all, and let’s finally start working towards the implementation of the Piana Agricultural Park”.
