Public transport, alarm from trade unions in Liguria: “Insufficient resources for a decent service”

Genoa. “There is a lack of funds for decent public transport.” This is what the trade unions denounce Filt-Cgil, Fit-Cisl, Uiltrasporti and Faisa-Cisal after yesterday’s meeting with the regional transport councilor Augusto Sartori to continue the discussion that began over a year ago on resources for companies and working conditions for staff.

“Unfortunately, to date, the answers are not sufficient”we read in a note. The Region has committed to identifying, through the use of funds to be allocated to investments, resources for a share equal to 50% of the demand requestrelating to investments, sent by the Metropolitan City of Genoa and the Provinces of Imperia, Savona and La Spezia to the Liguria Region for the renewal of the vehicle fleet, to be assigned on a three-year basis (approximately 80 million in three years against a declared requirement for investments in infrastructure and vehicles of 160 million).

“As has already happened in previous meetings, the Region has not shown its willingness to identify quotas of additional financing for operations, which do not come from increases foreseen by the National Transport Fund. In this regard, the resources that would be made available they would not, therefore, provide support for the TPL service but only for investments – the unions report -. The Region has declared that it wishes to evaluate the allocation of these funds also in consideration of corporate choices that guarantee the economic sustainability of services (e.g. new pricing policies).

Faisa-Cisal requested a urgent meeting with interim president Piana to reiterate the request for an increase in resources to be allocated, on account of operations, to the Tpl service in Liguria, in order to avoid the economic collapse of companies, the cut in travel, the blocking of company collective bargaining, the flight of drivers towards more profitable jobs. “In the absence of concrete answers we will implement every appropriate initiative in order to protect Ligurian public transport to safeguard jobs and the social nature of the service”, conclude the unions.
