Worker dead in Marghera, colleagues of the victim go on strike – News

The workers of Sait spa fully supported the strike called this morning by Filctem Cgil following the death of their colleague Islam Miah, who fell from a scaffold, perhaps due to illness, and later died in Mestre hospital (Venice). .
This morning a protest was held at the gates of the Fincantieri factory in Porto Marghera, where Sait operates as a subcontractor.
For Daniele Giordano, secretary of the CGIL of Venice, “the causes of death will have to be ascertained, but there is no doubt that Islam Miah died while he was at work. Likewise, there is no doubt that in our territory there continue to be thousands of accidents, one of which partly fatal, cases of occupational diseases which seriously affect workers are increasing. As CGIL we express our utmost solidarity and closeness to the family of Islam Miah, to the Sait workers and to the entire Bengali community line in our Region and in our territory, where profit continues to be put before the protection of health and safety”.
“The support for the strike – declares Davide Stoppa, Venetian secretary of Filctem – was total, demonstrating how the issue of health and safety protection is deeply felt among workers. We will continue to fight so that in all Fincantieri contracts putting the protection of health and safety for workers first.”
