Hot on the heels of the 2024 European Championships and the Sette Colli Trophy, the Scottish Open National Swimming Championships kicked off in Edinburgh.

With less than a month to go until the start of the Olympic Games in Paris, British Olympians are among those heading to the Royal Commonwealth Pool for final tests before Paris.

MEN’S COMPETITIONS

The multiple Olympic medalist Duncan Scott He dove into the men’s 200 IM and ran a great time to take gold.

Twenty-seven-year-old Scott set a time of 1:57.95 and was the only competitor to dip under the 2-minute barrier.

He led an onslaught of Stirling swimmers who claimed 7 of the 8 spots in the final. Behind Scott was teammate Evan Jones which he touched in 2:00.03, while George Smith he completed the podium in 2:00.77.

Scott has a season best of 1:55.91, achieved at the Aquatics GB Olympic Trials. This result is close to the British record of 1:55.28 achieved at the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Scott returned to the water soon after to compete in the men’s 100m freestyle final.

With 48.88 he took the victory. David Cumberlidge of Edinburgh who achieved a 49.05 for silver, while Jack McMillan he touched in 49.45 for bronze.

McMillan was selected for the British Olympic team as a discretionary choice by the nation’s coaching team after finishing fifth in the 200m freestyle (1:46.19) at the Trials.

WOMEN’S RACES

Angharad Evans, won the women’s 100 meter breaststroke with a time of 1:05.71. She stopped just 17 hundredths away from the British national record of 1:05.54 set last month at the AP Race in London.

The Edinburgh Couple Kara Hanlon e Anna Morgan came in close behind, with the former clocking 1:06.83 and the latter 1:09.18.

Additional notes

  • Lucy Hope, who qualified for Paris in the women’s 4x200m freestyle relay, took gold in the 100m freestyle. Hope clocked 54.90.
  • Scott Gibson of Edinburgh won the men’s 50m backstroke in 25.36.
  • Michaella Glenister won the 800 freestyle in 8:46.68.
