The beaches of Modica have obtained the prestigious Blue Flag recognition for the fourth consecutive time, a symbol of environmental excellence and quality of the services offered. The Blue Flag hoisting ceremony took place yesterday morning, a significant moment which certifies the healthiness of the sea waters, respect for the environment and the quality of the tourist infrastructure.

Samuele Cannizzaro, Councilor for Ecology, proudly commented: “A very intense weekend that we have put behind us and that experienced, yesterday morning, the always significant moment of the Blue Flag hoisted on our beaches. Blue Flag is the asserted certification of the healthiness of our sea, of the environmental respect that we put in place, of the protection of the ecosystem and of the flora and fauna in it, of the quality of the services that we know and want to offer in our seaside resorts. The symbol of all this is the flag that will fly on our beaches again this summer and in the lidos that live on our beaches.”

The path to obtaining the Blue Flag began in 2021 under the administration of Ignazio Abbate and continues today with the current administration, which is committed to meeting rigorous environmental standards. Being among the 11 Sicilian towns that can boast this prestigious recognition is a source of great satisfaction for Modica. The Blue Flag certifies the quality of the marine environment, the cleanliness of the water and adherence to good ecological practices that govern territorial policies.

Yesterday’s ceremony was attended by the mayor Maria Monisteri, fellow councillors, representatives of the local authorities, a representative of the city council and the heads of the Ecology Office. This solemn moment certified the fulfillment of the 32 requirements necessary to obtain the Blue Flag. The recognition is not only a symbol of excellence, but also represents Modica’s continuous commitment to respecting and protecting the environment.

Cannizzaro concluded by reiterating the importance of maintaining and improving the standards achieved: “We are working immediately to ensure that it is confirmed also in the next season.” The Blue Flag that flies on the beaches of Modica is a constant commitment to guarantee a healthy marine environment and high-quality services for residents and tourists, confirming the city as one of the most virtuous seaside destinations in Sicily.
