Amphorae ancient, terracotta jars, silverware, clocks and even two violins. A varied and very often valuable stolen goods that Piero Carcagna and Fabio Martucci, 65 and 60 year olds from Lecce arrested yesterday by the Carabinieri of the Santa Rosa station, allegedly took away from various homes in the capital targeted last year.

The thefts

The two were arrested in execution of a house arrest order with an electronic bracelet issued by the judge for preliminary investigations of the Court of Lecce at the request of the Prosecutor’s Office. Four, in particular, the episodes contested. On August 24, together with a third person, the two allegedly entered a home after having forced the front door and allegedly stole several silver objects, two violins, four watches, diamonds and other objects. On August 14, instead, a terracotta amphora placed in the garden was allegedly stolen from the home of a doctor. Another amphora was allegedly stolen on August 16 from the garden of another home. The list of stolen goods also includes a two-meter-high cycas, stolen from a villa on December 3. Carcagna, moreover, is also charged with receiving stolen goods, for having sold a terracotta jar to a street vendor that was later found to be stolen in October.

For their investigations, the Carabinieri used the recordings of video surveillance cameras installed near the homes targeted. Before the arrest, some searches were carried out. Martucci is defended by the lawyer Umberto Leo and together with the alleged accomplice will have to appear before the judge in the next few days for the preliminary hearing.
