Dying at work at just 21 years old. A now daily massacre that affects Italy from North to South. A Black Friday with three young victims at work, from Canicattì (Agrigento) to Minturno (Latina), up to Venice, where Marco Salvagno, a young man, lost his life worker originally from Chioggia, victim of a serious accident that occurred in a warehouse of the Boscolo Bielo company in Santa Marta.

Marco Salvagno died on construction site at 21 years old

The dynamics of the tragedy are still unclear and the carabinieri are investigating, but according to an initial reconstruction, the 21-year-old had a hemorrhage after cutting his femoral artery at the height of the knee. Despite the long resuscitation by the Suem doctors, he did not make it. The injury occurred around 4:00 p.m. and the boy, transferred to the Civil Hospital of Venice, died around 6:30 p.m.

Artery severed by a piece of glass

A blow given in a moment of nervousness on a hot and muggy day. A tragic fatality that occurred in the warehouse area that left Salvagno no escape: the young man allegedly broke a sheet of glass with his leg, remaining stuck up to his knee in the pieces of glass, which severed his femoral artery leading to a serious hemorrhage. The first to help him were his colleagues a moment before the Suem in a hydroambulance took the doctors to Rio della Scomenzera, where a resuscitation began that lasted for hours. Then the young man reached the Civil Hospital and there shortly after died. At the company they cannot understand what happened.

Company owner shocked

The owner Boscolo Bielo thanked his people for the rescue, but he is shocked: “I am speechless for this devastating tragedy. The boy inside a warehouse for unknown reasons kicked a glass door and was fatally injured. The interventions of his colleagues, to whom I personally thank, and the quick arrival of the ambulance were of no avail. In this dramatic moment we can only stand together and be close to the family”.

The condolences of the unions

The unions also expressed their condolences after yet another tragedy at work: “While waiting to find out the dynamics that caused his death, our commitment to this remains strong and determined – said the general secretary of Cisl Venezia Michele Zanocco and that of Filca Cisl, Andrea Grazioso -. Prevention is a fundamental weapon to overcome tragic situations”, said Roberto Toigo, general secretary of Uil Veneto, while Daniele Giordano, of the Venice Chamber of Labor, awaits the outcome of the investigations, underlining the centrality of protection in the workplace. On behalf of himself and the community of Chioggia, Mayor Mauro Armelao is close to the family’s grief. “A young life cut short that leaves us shocked. I also express my closeness to Ivano Boscolo Bielo’s company for this loss of one of their young employees, a serious and highly appreciated company”.
