Laura Nargi’s victory in Avellino distances the prospect of an alignment of the democratic game in the city and in the province with respect to the coordinates of the national and regional political framework. In short, Laura Nargi’s victory compresses the space for a regeneration of the centre-right in Avellino and Irpinia because the centre-right is either born as an alternative to the centre-left or it is not born. And if the role of the alternative falls to the centre-left, the Democratic Party and its allies, the centre-right is not in a position to carry out any function.
It will be said that the votes of Livio Petitto and Angelo Antonio D’Agostino were decisive for Nargi’s victory. We believe that in reality it was the opinion vote that was decisive but regardless of any consideration of merit we cannot recognize in the agreement defined on the eve of the vote the genesis of a new centre-right government in the capital, but, rather, the recomposition of the same bloc that has governed the city for the last five years.
In other words, the total failure of the strategy of the Honorable Rotondi who, we remember, should have built the new center-right in Irpinia starting from the city of Avellino and today he not only rejoices but states that only thanks to Rino Genovese the center-right was in the game, when in reality, through his fault, the centre-right has given up on playing to win, through his fault Fratelli d’Italia, the party thanks to which he was re-elected two years ago, had to face the dispute alone, through his fault the centre-right has he’s done in four, because of him, the city is still governed by Nicola Mancino’s repudiated sons who don’t think about converting to Giorgia’s word.
And here we come to the real crux of the matter. It is completely clear that whoever, in Fratelli d’Italia, imagined playing the second half of the provincial congress, going to support Genovese first and then Nargi, with the cover of the Honorable Rotondi, made the wrong play. The management group led by Ines Fruncillo has the duty to demand clarification on what happened in Avellino, the only capital of De Luca’s Campania called to vote.
It is absolutely necessary that political facts are consumed, beyond the more or less official declarations, it is necessary that this management group has full investiture in view of the regional elections starting from the assumption that there can be no room, in the party’s representation proposal, for those made different choices in the city, for those who worked to bring the coalition to implosion. In other words, there will be no room for Livio Petitto, the bridgeman elected by Gianfranco Rotondi, who to be honest will not have major problems finding a different and useful position. Perhaps in Forza Italia, alongside Angelo Antonio D’Agostino who is now the point of reference in the province of the party and who has the sole objective of building, of bringing home a good result in the regional elections and then aiming for Parliament, perhaps in some list of support for the President, perhaps among the Moderates and Progressives.
And here we are at the point. Livio Petitto had no other ambition than to demonstrate his strength in the capital and then capitalize on the result in the runoff. Today he can say that he is still in the field, that he is capable of guaranteeing a consensus that is anything but marginal, he is in a position to invest in the result in the city to further broaden and better prepare the race for reconfirmation in the regional assembly.
He was thinking of doing it with Fratelli d’Italia, if it is not possible he will adapt. To the same extent that he never really believed he could bring Gianluca Festa and his associates to the centre-right, today he knows that in a year and a half he will be able to count on Gianluca Festa’s votes regardless of the list on which he will be a candidate. And that’s rightly enough for him. And apparently that’s enough for the Honorable Rotondi too.
