A 39-year-old driver was reported by the local police of Modena after causing a road accident along the Modena-Sassuolo ring road, shortly after 1.30 am on the night between Thursday 27th and Friday 28th June. The man, who was driving while intoxicated, had an alcohol level almost three times higher than the legal limit, and a woman was slightly injured in the accident.
Accident dynamics
According to the reconstruction carried out by the Accident Inspectorate, the accident occurred shortly before the exit for Baggiovara. The 39-year-old, resident in the province, was driving a small truck on the ring road towards Sassuolo. While driving, the vehicle collided with a Kia, driven in the same direction by a 65-year-old woman, also resident in the province, who had the owner of the vehicle, a 59-year-old, on board.
Intervention by the local police
The patrols of the Via Galilei Command intervened at the scene of the accident to carry out surveys and determine the causes of the accident. During the investigations, both drivers were subjected to breathalyzer tests. The driver of the Kia tested negative, but was nevertheless transported to the emergency room in Baggiovara for minor injuries.
Charged with driving while intoxicated
The 39-year-old, however, was found to be in a state of alcoholic alteration, with a blood alcohol level almost three times the permitted limit of 0.5 g/l. The man was then reported for driving while intoxicated pursuant to article 186 of the Highway Code. His license was withdrawn immediately, while the vehicle, belonging to the company he works for, was not subjected to any measures.
Legal Consequences
The judicial authority will now decide on the amount of criminal sanctions to be applied, which may include a fine of 800 to 3,200 euros, the deduction of points from the license and the suspension of the driving document from six months to a year. Furthermore, since the accident occurred at night (after 10 pm and before 7 am), the sanctions could be increased by a third to a half.
