The girls between 16 and 25 years old they fear for theirs safetythey have fear to walk alone in the evening, and for this reason they avoid taking public transport and they wear more discreet clothing if they are out alone: the terrible results of one demonstrate this research on habits of young people which signals these types of concerns. Eumetra’s survey was carried out on behalf of Telefono donna Italia, and was presented today at the Fondazione Cariplo conference center in Milan, which supported it.

Research on young people and their habits

The research, carried out in January with over 800 interviews among young and very young people (sample between 16-25 years old) ranges from the attitudes they hold to the ideas they have up to the channels through which they obtain information and their judgments on certain realities, such as trap music which is clearly rejected: boys and girls, with different but always very high percentages, consider it ‘very’ or ‘quite disrespectful’ of women. Among other notable results, 42% of boys “do not know what affective education is”, 66% of girls “implement measures when returning home in the evening” (only 22% of boys) , 62% «avoid taking public transport after a certain time» (17% for boys), 61% choose ad hoc «discreet clothing».

And as regards the «gender equality», while for girls it is still far away in the workplace (69%) it is doing better at home, in the education of children (55%) and in household management (52%). As Eumetra highlights, according to 4 out of 10 girls, social media negatively influences the image of women and over half of them believe that they encourage offensive behavior.

“I think our research offers a somewhat alarming picture of young people and the issue of violence,” said Renato Mannheimer, of Eumetra. “The research data are comforting at least in that young people are aware of the problem of the forms of abuse and have also learned the countermeasures,” says Stefania Bartoccetti, founder of Telefono Donna.
