Everything is ready in Montemurlo for the start of the 33rd edition of the Montemurlo historical parade, promoted by the Municipality with the Historical Group. The most important historical re-enactment event in the area, after the difficult years of Covid and the damage caused by the flood on 2 November last to the historical costume warehouse in via Toti, finds this year its traditional location at the end of June “This is the week of history and traditions of Montemurlo – says the mayor Simone Calamai – An edition of the restart after the tragedy of the flood which also brought destruction to the historical Group’s warehouse, sweeping away 32 years of history and sacrifices. It was not easy organize this event but the historic Group, like our fellow citizens, has shown great strength and resilience and was able to get back on its feet. For this reason we want to dedicate the 33rd edition of the Cortege to the flood victims and all the angels of the mud”.

Tiziana Giagnoni, president of the historical group, has tears in her eyes when she remembers the terrible moments of the flood, when at the risk of her own life, she reached the warehouse with water that now reached her waist, and managed, together with the deputy president Alessandro Bargiacchi, to save the historical costumes: “We have lost 32 years of history – says Giagnoni – The parade will be in a reduced form even if in the end, despite the countless difficulties, we will be able to dress around 60 people”.

All events are dedicated to the memory of Isabella Biagini, historical volunteer of the Historical Group, who passed away in November.
