Milan, 24 June 2024 – Milanese citizens vote a Cusano Milanino for the election of the new mayor. The challenge to runoff is between Carla Pessina and Valeria Lesma. The defeated did not sign affiliations or offer voting instructions to their voters.
Six more at the polls Municipalities of the Province of Milan: Lainate, Novate, Paderno Dugnano, Peschiera Borromeo, Settimo Milanese and Trezzano sul Naviglio, all cities with over 15 thousand inhabitants for which the law provides for a second round if no candidate reaches an absolute majority in the first, as happened in Rozzano, Cormano and Cesano Boscone.
THE RESULTS
Turnout
The turnout in the province of Milan – as expected – turned out to be lower than in the first round: at 11pm on Sunday 32.64% of those entitled to vote had voted. At 7pm 26.79% of voters in six seven municipalities had voted, at 12pm 10.59%. At 11pm on Sunday the turnout at Cusano Milanino was at 33.39%.
Carla Pessina
Carla Pessina, supported by the 5 Star Movement, the Democratic Party and other civic lists. Valeria Lesma
Challenging her is the outgoing mayor Valeria Lesma, supported by the united centre-right. “Forward together”, is the slogan chosen by Lesma (Lega, FdI, Forza Italia, Cusano Milanino Cambia), which presents itself with 46.01% (4,135 votes), 10% and 1,400 voters less than in 2019, when he had won in the first round. “Every 5 years Cusano has always had to start from scratch. Continuity means progress.” Fifteen pages of electoral program, of which half of the end-of-term budget is among the proposals the experimentation of the After us project, “making some municipal accommodation available for independent living”. Also among the objectives the restyling of the historic garden of Palazzo Omodei, opening the ground floor of the historic residence to initiatives, and the reopening of the Aqueduct Tower “to host the associations”.
