Caltanissetta – Tribute to two policemen killed in the line of duty. It was made them by questore of Caltanissetta, Pinuccia Albertina Agnello, by the prefect Chiara Armenia and by the police chaplain, Don Vicente Genova. In memory of the superior inspector Salvatore Falzone and the deputy superintendent Michele Pilato, both on duty in the flying squad, when they were victims of a road accident.

At the monument to the fallen police, the commissioner read a message from the director general of public security, the prefect Vittorio Pisani who met Salvatore Falzone and Michele Pilato in the early 2000s as an official of the central operations service.

«I had met them more than twenty years ago when I was in Caltanissetta for the capture of a fugitive… Remembering Salvatore and Michele today means making their memory and their example alive which was not in vain”, is a passage from the message from the head of the police, Pisani.

The short commemorative ceremony was also attended by officials and employees of the police station, the families of the victims, including Chiara, now a policeman, daughter of Michele Pilato, representatives of the national police association of Caltanissetta and Gela and of the trade union organisations.

Then , the Emanuela Loi room was the scene of a short commemorative meeting during which some now retired colleagues from the captivity section, namely the chief commissioner Angelo Tamburello, chief commissioner Calogero Diana and deputy commissioner Patrizio Giugno, traced a brief professional and human profile of the two policemen, victims of duty.

Yes, because on the morning of June 24, 2004, Falzone and Pilato were traveling to Gela for delicate investigations related to the capture of a dangerous fugitive.
