“I went to see the Italy match, I drank, I don’t remember anything about what happened afterwards. But I apologize to everyone, to the shop owners and to the kids.” This is what was declared yesterday morning by Filippo Liparoto, a 50-year-old Sicilian who committed a theft from the Savi pastry shop in Corso Italia in Castelraimondo on the night between Thursday and Friday. Around 3 o’clock he forced the door of the pastry shop, took the cash register and fled. Three minors were the ones who filmed him with their cell phone and called the police, suspicious when they saw what the 50-year-old was doing. Thanks to them the carabinieri had managed to stop the Sicilian (formally resident in Ancona but domiciled in Castelraimondo, because he was engaged as a worker in the post-earthquake reconstruction works). The man had hidden the cash among the flowerbeds in a street not far from the pastry shop, had returned home, had changed and had succeeded.

Placed under house arrest, yesterday the 50-year-old was accompanied to court in Macerata for the validation of the arrest and the direct hearing before judge Andrea Belli and prosecutor Raffaela Zuccarini. The owners of the pastry shop and the children who had filmed it also arrived in court, accompanied by their parents, but they all remained outside the courtroom because Liparoto, after having confessed and apologized, asked the defense lawyer Lucia Testarmata to negotiate the penalty by agreeing with the prosecutor to six months’ imprisonment, converted into 2 thousand euros to be paid in 20 installments of 100 euros. After the Liparoto sentence, which has numerous precedents, he was released again.
