Don Luigi Bassetto, 80 years old, hospitalized since early June at the Feltre hospital in the Belluno area, would have died from an injection of morphine ten times the prescribed dose due to heart failure. The person who administered the injection was a 45-year-old nurse, who was investigated by the prosecutor’s office for manslaughter after a complaint from the health management. In the meantime, the nurse has been suspended as a precaution. The autopsy, which will be carried out on Monday morning by the pathologist Antonello Cirnelli, will establish with greater certainty the causes of the priest’s death.

Who was Don Luigi Bassetto

Originally from Roncade, in the Treviso area, Don Luigi Bassetto was parish priest of the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Treviso for 10 years until 2010. The funeral was supposed to take place in that church, but was canceled at the last moment after the file was opened investigation by the prosecutor’s office. Don Bassetto returned there in 2018, but the following year he had to leave a position because he suffered a stroke. Since then he has been assisted by some volunteers.
