A team of firefighters working against wasp and hornet stings

This morning at the provincial headquarters of the Fire Brigade of Caserta located in via Falcone, the agreement for the “Fight against the aculeated hymenoptera and interventions to protect public health” was signed by Commander Massimi and the General Director of the ASL of Caserta Amedeo Blasotti.

The initiative – the first of this type in the Campania region – was born from the collaboration between the Fire Brigade and the local health authority for risk prevention and assistance to citizens in the event of a bite from insects belonging to the “aculeate hymenoptera” family (wasps, hornets).
Thanks to the financial commitment of the ASL, which supported the costs of the operation, a very useful tool for human health and environmental protection will be guaranteed, within the institutional tasks of the National Fire Brigade and of the ASL Veterinary Service.
In fact, the agreement provides for the operation of an additional team of firefighters equipped with basic, specialist and of vehicles to offer an effective and timely response in the event of reports.

The Fire Brigade teams will be adequately trained by the ASL Veterinary Service, also with the aim of recognizing the species of hymenoptera and dealing with any critical issues safely. In the event that the intervention concerns apiaries and swarms of bees, the responsibility will fall directly to the Veterinary Service, responsible for supervising the state of the bees which, although they fall within the family of the aculeate hymenoptera, represent a protected species, intended for food production and of fundamental importance for the survival of some plant species and the human race.
Also present at the ceremony were the Prefect of Caserta, Dr. Giuseppe Castaldo, the Regional Director of the Fire Brigade, Dr. Ing. Emanuele Franculli and all the civil and military authorities.
