Flood, the town submerged in mud and debris: damage for 10 million euros

Once the emergency was over, in Gussago the counting of the enormous damage caused by last Sunday’s violent flood began. A first and summary estimate is made by the mayor Giovanni Coccoli, who sent the request for the recognition of a natural disaster to the region. We are talking about over 10 million euros.

“We have taken care of an infinite number of reports” reports the mayor in a live broadcast published on social media on the evening of Friday 14 June, during which he also invited citizens, who have given rise to fiery controversies in recent days, to see with their own eyes the temporary warehouse set up in front of the Ronco cemetery, where the special waste, logs, debris, mud and wood that invaded the town after the flooding of the Canale torrent were taken.

The mayor then responded to the accusations rained down, again on social media, about the poor cleanliness of the stream by flooding: “The waterway was not dirty. Of course, everything was found: bulky objects and even boilers that some crafty person had abandoned in the riverbed. It was an unprecedented disaster: in less than an hour 80 mm of water fell (the equivalent of 80 liters of water per square meter, ed.), something never seen before.” The direct line in the town hall is still active – at number 030 2522919 – aimed at anyone who has suffered damage.
