Floods and landslides in El Salvador: at least 11 dead

At least 11 people died to El Salvador due to heavy rains which caused extensive damage, including flooding, landslides and road obstructions. Thousands of people are affected by floods and landslides. Luis Alonso Amaya, director of Civil Protection, explained that there are currently 34 operational shelters and that 882 people are taking refuge there. Five people were buried following a landslide in the western district of Tacuba, two other people died after the vehicle they were traveling in crashed into a tree that fell due to rain and four others died between Friday 14th and Sunday 16th June.

The General Directorate of Civil Protection of El Salvador declared thered alert across the country due to the heavy rains recorded in the last 72 hours and the high probability of urban flooding and flooding. It is expected that a year’s worth of precipitation will be reached during this emergency.

Also the Guatemala is on high alert due to the bad weather. A woman and a man died in the indigenous municipality of Sacapulas, buried by a collapsed wall.
