At Sequals, the annual convention of Friulians in the world: “distance strengthens bonds”

Pordenone – The annual convention of Friulians in the world took place in Sequals (Pn) on Saturday 15 June, organized by Ente Friuli nel Mondo in the prestigious venue of Villa Savorgnan, in the hamlet of Lestans.

The event saw the participation of delegates from the Fogolârs furlans of Italy and the world and 40 young descendants of fellow regional residents in Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay, participants in three projects organized by the organization with the contribution of the Fvg Region.

“Distance strengthens bonds.” This is the message brought by the president of the Regional Council, Mauro Bordin, who underlined “the importance of journalists and all those who, with their work, tell the story of the region and make it possible to know and understand the land of origin and satisfy the desire of Friuli of our fellow countrymen who have often emigrated to distant countries and of their descendants”.

After a significant tribute to the heavyweight champion, Primo Carnera, and a musical space animated by Dario Zampa, this year’s edition of the convention, entitled “Sport, Friulian identity in the world. From Carnera to Paris 2024”, opened with the institutional greetings of the mayor of Sequals, Enrico Odorico, followed by the speech of the regional councilor Stefano Zannier.

Among the guests, the Paralympic athletes Katia Aere and Giada Rossi and the president of Coni Fvg, Giorgio Brandolin.

Bordin warmly thanked the president of the Ente Friuli nel Mondo, Loris Basso, who “with his commitment has honored not only the position, but the territory that he promoted and enhanced in his four years of mandate. With Loris I shared an intense year, in which I had the opportunity to interact with our fellow countrymen abroad and to appreciate the importance of maintaining ties with the Region”.

“Friuli Venezia Giulia is proud of its emigrants and of the challenges they have undertaken in certainly not easy years, seeking opportunities in often distant lands and managing to fit into new contexts while respecting other cultures,” added the president.

Bordin, in underlining how “the event is central to renewing identity, cultural and linguistic values and dealing with aspects of the Friulian presence abroad”, concluded by ideally embracing the numerous Friulians who live far from their roots.

President Basso, after recalling that “last year the organisation, the first voice of Friulians abroad, turned 70” and having illustrated the association’s activities and initiatives, announced that “next year the convention will take place in Gorizia on the occasion of Go2025!”.
