Unfortunately, a fiery summer awaits in Sardinia. The data from these first months of 2024 are not encouraging: 430 fires broke out on the island from 1 January to 10 June, double compared to last year. However, 777 hectares have been destroyed so far, compared to 305 in 2023.

Meanwhile, yesterday, 19 fires broke out in Sardinia, two of which also required the intervention of aerial vehicles. Flames in Villanova Monteleone, in the “M. Pottu Codiunu” with an intervention by a Canadair arriving from Olbia. The shutdown was coordinated by the staff of the Forestry Corps Station of Villanova Monteleone, by the patrol of Alghero assisted in turn by the staff on board the helicopter coming from the Anela base. Three teams from the Forestas Agency and a team from the Sassari Fire Brigade also intervened.

The second fire broke out in the Villanovafranca countryside, in the “M.Narba” area. In this case the shutdown was coordinated by the staff of the Barumini Forestry Corps Station who requested the dispatch of the Villasalto helicopter with its staff on board. In addition to the GAUF of Cagliari, two teams of volunteers from the associations of Villanovafranca and Senorbi and a team of the Iglesias fire brigade intervened.
