ISIS prisoners take two guards hostage in a Russian prison

Two prison guards serving at a detention center in the Rostov region of Russia have been taken hostage by inmates. The Federal Penitentiary Service reports this in its Telegram channel. According to the Ria Novosti Agency, one of the two hostages could be the director of the prison. Holding them hostage are 5 men who claim to be supporters of ISIS. The head of Russia’s Gufsin in the Rostov region, as well as representatives of the cooperating law enforcement agencies and the prosecutor’s office are on site. Negotiations are underway to free the hostages. “We are negotiating the release of the hostages. The institution is functioning normally, the situation is controlled”, Gufsin reports on his website. As confirmed by Tass, inmates in the pre-trial detention center in Rostov-on-Don are accused of terrorist crimes.

The Interfax agency explains that the ISIS detainees who took two guards hostage at the pre-trial detention center in the Rostov region are armed with knives. The agency specifies that the inmates have asked to have a car and to be able to leave the prison freely. “A group of six prisoners who took two employees hostage demanded to provide them with a car and freely leave the pre-trial detention center. In response, they promised to release the hostages. Negotiations are ongoing,” they said emergency services.
