CALVI IS RISEN (Elio Zanni) – Another collision between vehicles, still on Via Casilina, still at the intersection between the municipalities of Calvi Risorta and Sparanise. The accident dates back to 11pm yesterday 15 June 2024 and this time the toll is two injured.
The Carabinieri from the mobile radio branch of the Capua company and the 118 health workers from the Calvi-Sparanise station promptly intervened at the site of the accident to provide immediate assistance and start the investigations.
But there is another balance that many people and indeed too many institutions struggle to notice: it is the excessive frequency of road accidents that occur on that stretch of state road.
It was also yesterday 15 June, for example, in the morning that the frightening collision between an SUV and the motorcycle of a 59-year-old from Acerra left his life there, on Via Casilina in the cursed stretch that cuts the Caleno territory in two.
That place has a name: “the crossroads of death”. A name spontaneously, in a completely natural way invented by residents who almost every day find themselves listening to deafening braking, catastrophic thuds and desperate cries for help. The residents’ appeal: “Do something, that place is a trap for motorists.”
The need for precise and urgent interventions to modify the logic of the intersection, yet another roundabout, a traffic light system is clearly evident; these are choices that we leave to specialized technical brainpower.
But the firm condemnation to absolute inactivity, to witnessing impassively in the “saecula saecularum” of the politicians on duty and public administrators the continuous clashes and the lengthening of the list of dead and injured at the crossroads of death, this is true: it is a task that falls to newspapers.
It is necessary for the local authorities, starting with the mayors of the municipalities of Sparanise and Calvi Risorta, to urge the competent body of the Casilina state road and themselves take concrete and timely measures to prevent further tragedies. Hurry up.
