According to the first reconstructions of the case, it would seem that there was a powerful and strong hailstorm in the Fermo area. This meteorological event appears to have occurred today afternoon, Thursday 13 June 2024.
In the city of Porto Sant’Elpidio the hailstorm would have caused major damage and failure to provide services. In particular, one of the Lidl supermarkets would have been hit. The supermarket headquarters located in via Trentino suffered the collapse of part of its attic.
Based on the information found, the collapse appears to have occurred when there were few customers and only some of the employees in the supermarket. This would have been crucial to ensure that there were as few injuries as possible. Luckily, there wouldn’t be any at all. Once this happened, the business would immediately be closed to the next customers.
The mayor of the city apparently arrived at the headquarters immediately, accompanied by the presence of the deputy, the councilor for social services and the commander of the local police. It seems a quick reconnaissance was carried out. Immediately afterwards there would have been a confrontation between the local administrators and the local employees.
The latter would have guaranteed the mayor the harmlessness of the situation from the moment in which there would have been no injuries. The bad weather, in general, seems to have been characterized by a strong storm and a powerful hailstorm. This would have caused various inconveniences.
In general, there would have been flooding of roads, underpasses and homes located on the ground floor. Indeed, it would appear that a bedridden woman was evacuated from her home in via IV Novembre. Help appears to have arrived promptly from the Fire Brigade to restore adequate conditions for circulation in the city of Porto Sant’Elpidio.
