After the proclamation of those elected following the administrative electoral consultations of last 8 and 9 June, the Mayor of Roccella Jonica, Vittorio Zito, reconfirmed for the second mandate, convened the first municipal council of the new legislature which met yesterday in extraordinary public session in the council meeting room of the Municipal Palace, in via Cristoforo Colombo.

There were 7 points on the agenda. As a first step, the Council was asked to examine, pursuant to art. 41, paragraph 1 of Legislative Decree 18/8/2000 n. 267, the eligibility and compatibility conditions of the Mayor and elected municipal councilors and their validation. Then the mayor’s oath and his communications regarding the appointments for the position of deputy mayor and the members of the municipal council which is composed as follows:
Deputy mayor with responsibility for the budget and taxes Francesco Scali, with responsibility for the environment and territory Fabrizio Chiefari, with responsibility for culture Rossella Scherl, with responsibility for social policies Alessandra Cianflone. The mayor retained the powers of Urban Planning and Public Works for himself.
The delegation outside the primary school has been entrusted to councilor Elena Bova who will also be group leader in the council of Roccella Prima di tutto. The delegation to sport to councilor Fausto Certomà and the delegation to health to councilor Serena Misiti.
Finally, the new municipal council of Roccella unanimously elected, with the votes of the opposition, the President of the City Council in the person of the lawyer. Domenico Cartolano who was also assigned the important mandate for tourism, the port and the Carafa village which also includes responsibility for the hill and castle park. Councilor Serena Misiti was subsequently elected vice president. The discussion moved on to the establishment of the council groups and the designation of the respective group leaders and the Municipal Electoral Commission. A tough but decisive speech was given by the group leader of Roccella municipality Nicola Iervasi, who highlighted the important points that will characterize the opposition’s activity in the future. Among the interventions of the opposition there was also that of the councilor Vincenzo Ursino. The last item on the agenda will concern the appointment of the Commission for the formation of the lists of popular judges.
