Punched for a Christmas card. Not that anything was written there. It was a common message written by some family friends. But in times of lean and economic hardship, that was enough to set off the spark. Convinced that the envelope also contained money and that her wife had secretly made it disappear, her husband had threatened her and reprimanded her with a resounding barrage of punches. And he hadn’t gone easy. A 30 day prognosis for the lady, the time needed to put her fractured nasal bones back together. Precisely with the hospital report dated 20 December 2023, the reporting to the Prosecutor’s Office began as per procedure, such as to trigger the so-called “red code”, i.e. the regulatory procedure envisaged to protect, among the crimes, also gender violence. A 60-year-old man of Indian origin and resident in the Ravenna area was investigated and then brought to trial. The trial ended with acquittal. The sentence pronounced by judge Federica Lipovscek arrived in recent days, eliminating the aggravating circumstance of frivolous and abject reasons and considering that, in the meantime, the offended party itself withdrew the complaint due to the threats received. Thus for the accused – assisted by the lawyer Stefano Capucci, replaced by his colleague Eleonora Sgrò – a sentence was issued that he should not proceed.
