He had the firefighters in his heart. And he has always kept them there, deep inside. Becoming a firefighter was a desire that Edoardo Cavalleri di Lomazzo had since he was a child. Unfortunately, this desire was only cut short at the age of 20 due to an illness.
The young man with the dream of becoming a firefighter was struck down by an illness at just 20 years old
Ever since he and his three-year younger brother, Nicolò, went to the oratory and both wore uniforms. After all, Edo breathed this passion from an early age and grew up understanding its depth and importance: his father Andrea is still a firefighter in charge of Como today. Edo’s wish, however, was not fulfilled. The young man, now twenty years old, passed away due to an illness that gave him no escape.
When he began to dream, he did not come to terms with the cruelty of fate and the project designed for him. Two years ago, at the age of 18, when everything was ready to be able to join the Lomazzo detachment, the disease took over Edo’s life path: an osteosarcoma which he, moreover, spoke about with a shocking naturalness. “I have a tumor in my pelvis,” he declared to anyone who asked him anything about his health.
Farewell to young Edo
Despite the strength and tenacity with which he faced the disease and the physical pain it caused him, Edo turned his eyes off life forever on Wednesday. Just as he requested, the funeral home was set up in the Lomazzo fire station. Thursday morning the “her friends of her” firefighters welcomed him to the detachment in via del Rampanone.
The body, accompanied by fire brigade vehicles, was taken to the church of San Siro in the afternoon for the funeral. She was then subjected to cremation.
